Propofol
Midazola

2

neuromuscular blockers

Suxamethonium
Rocuronium
Vecuronium

3

Etomidate onset and duration

Onset 30-60 sec, duration 2-3 min

4

Propofol onset and duration

Onset 10-45 sec, duration 3-10 min

5

Midazolam onset and duration

Onset 3-5 min, duration 15-30 min

6

Suxamethonium onset and duration

Onset 45-60 sec, duration 6-10 min

7

Rocuronium onset and duration

Onset 60 sec, duration 5-10 min

8

Vecuronium onset and duration

Onset 2.5-3 min, duration 25-40 min

9

Pre- med adjunct adgents

atropine and fentanyl

10

Atropine use as pre-medication for RSI

used to prevent bradycardia upon induction (particularly used in children)

11

Fentanyl use as pre-medication for RSI

sympatholytic, neuro-protection in head and vascular emergencies, pain control

12

Ketamine effect and indications

Provides analgesia, amnesia and sedation

Good for patients with head injury, elevated ICP, hypotension, bronchospasm, and those hemoodynamically unstable.

Good sole induction agent choice for a patient that has a contraindication to use of a paralytic agent

13

Ketamine adverse effects

increased secretion, raised intraocular pressure, cautio

14

Etomidate effect and indications

Provides sedation but NO analgesic effect

Pre-treatment with Fentanyl IV often used to blunt the painful stimulation of the upper airway during laryngoscopy

Good for patients with head injury, elevated ICP, hypotension, bronchospasm, CV disease, status epilepticus and those hemoodynamically unstable.

15

Etomidate AE

adrenal suppression, myoclonus

16

Propofol effect and indications

Provides sedation and amnesia, but NO analgesia

Good for bronchospasm, head injury, status epilepticus

17

Propofol AE

hypotension, myocardial depression, increased triglyceride and lipase levels

18

Midazolam effect and indications

Provides sedation and amnesia, but NO analgesia

Good agent for RSI needed in status epilepticus

19

Midazolam AE

hypotension
