Long term causes of the revolution
-exploitive + unfair conditions for the peasants + lower class
-Large gap b/w peasants + upper class in wealth w/ X way to increase $
- decrease say in how empire was run + lack of freedom of speech -> anger in general pop
-issues in russia = X addressed by Tzar Nicholas II
- protests increased w/ marxist ideas
Short term causes of the revolution - military defeats
-800,000 out of 1.4million = X rifle to train w/
-early defeats in war -> 250,000 men lost
-mid 1915= 4 mil Russian casualties
-v limited resources w/ 25% of ppl having X rifle
- Tzar taking charge of military while being inexperienced -> authority = undermined
-huge losses of territory -> 23million russians under ger occupation
Short term causes of the revolution - economic problems
- shortage of war supplies -> economy directed towards war effort @ expense of goods/services for civilians
-these factors impacted standard of living for lower+middle class / transport issues by end of 1916 -> moscow + petrograd = getting 1/3 usual food + fuel supply / inflation rose significantly + harder living conditions
-poor conditions in russian cities in russian cities -> greater calls for revolutionary change
