Scientific credibility
Tight controls, establishes cause and effect. None had difficulties such as reading or writing or in hearing to control for educational and cognitive differences. None had repeated a school year
Good generalisability…
570 ppts from various schools in Madrid from 5-17, None had any reading, writing, hearing impairments.
High reliability…
Standardised procedure reading digits 1 per second there are 3 trials. Each time ppt got sequence right another digit was added. Had to recall 2 of 3 sequences correctly, right digits, right order. therefore can be replicated to test for consistency therefore reliable.
Low task validity…
recalling sequences of digits may not be how we use WMM in real life. However testing, PL recalling sequences of digit is a valid test for this purpose. Therefore although lacks ecological validity can claim it has some task validity.
Ethical
Parental consent would have been gained from parents from all 570 ppts under age 18. No harm caused through procedures. Therefore ethical. Only some ppts vulnerable due to dementia lack of informed consent.
