Safely margin is
The space you maintain round the vehicle
When going down a hill
- Select a lower gear
- Brake gently
Coasting is
Traveling in neutral a with the clutch disengaged.
Learn the stopping distances found int the Highway Code
If there are wet conditions the stopping distance is
2x dry conditions
If there are icy conditions the stopping distance is
10x dry conditions
When driving in snow and ice
- Use the highest gear you can
- Brake gently
Use fog lights as well as dipped headlights if visibility is bellow

Aquaplanning is
Skidding on top of water
If skidding on ice
- Ease off the accelerator
- Don’t break until steering feels normal again
If you have driven through a ford or flood
Test your brakes

If you start to skid
- Release the footbrake and reapply it gently
- Steer in the direction of the skid (skidding to the right, steer to the right)

ESC is
Electronic stability control (aka Electronic stability programme) combines ADS and cruise control to prevent skidding sideways.
Provides selective braking to restore vehicle stability.
When parking on a downwards slope
- Apply the parking brake firmly
- Turn the steering wheel towards the kerb

- Just before a junction
- If your turning off the road shortly
