Q

Explain the difference between the Civil Rights Bills of 1964 and 1965. Why did it matter?

A

1.The Civil Rights Act of 1964 outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin, while the Voting Rights Act of 1965 specifically addressed and eliminated discriminatory voting practices, particularly in the South.

  1. if the voting rights act was not passed, then many African Americans would not be able to vote, helping racist government coming into office, and passively discriminating against them.
  2. This matters because African American people and communities would continue to be treated, less than, also making it extremely difficult for African Americans to have equal rghts and fair chances like other Americans.

Q

Why did they blind Isaac Woodard? Why did it matter?

A
  1. Isaac Woodard was blinded and beat, because he told a white bus driver “yes” instead of “yes sir”
  2. If a white man did the exact same thing, he would not have had such a violent response, purely because of the color of his skin.
  3. consequently, when Isaac Woodward was blinded it sparked national outrage, sparking the civil rights movement and eventually leading to the brown v. board of education.
