What is SCADA
Systems used to control process where centralized data acquisition is as important as control
Scads used in
Process systems like water distribution and waste water collection system, oil and gas pipelines, electrica utility transmutation
Control system in scads
Houses MTU and communication routers, it collects, logs and displays information, it generates actions, it’s responsible of alarming and reporting
MTU in scads
SCADA server, the device that acts as the master
Data historian
Centralized database for logging all process information within ICS (industrial control system)
HMI
Software and hardware that allows human operators to monitorthe state of process under control, modify…–
WAN
Wide area network
Standard communication protocols used to transport information between the control center and field sites
Uses telephone, cables, fiber. & radio frequency like microwave and broad cast and satellite
Field site
Performs local control to actuators and monitor sensors; equipped often with remote access to allow field operators to preform local diagnostics and repairs
RTU
Remote terminal unit, remote telemetry unit

Other devices like process controllers and RTU provide same control but for specific applications
PLC used cause mor economical, flexible, versatile and configurable

To acquire data, communicate with other devices, local processing and control
Can be analog input sensor or analog output

Control component responsible for collecting and providing access to process information from PLC, RTU
For architecture in scads
Point-to - point: simplest, but expensive due individual channels needed for each connection
Series: number of channels used is reduced, but channel sharing impacts efficiency and complexity
Series-star & multi-drop: use of channel per device reduce efficiency and increase complexity
