What’s the first thing we need to know about when running ads?

A

You + the platform = are a team

  • you and platform have same goals
  • either everyone wins, or nobody does
  • The better you do, the more money you can spend
    on the platform
  • if platform can help you get mass sales for cheap, you’re going to have exponentially more to spend on ads, everyone wins
  • it’s in platform’s best interest to serve ads to right people and get you as many sales as possible
  • Platform will do everything it can to get you sales

What’s a mistake everyone does when running ads?

A

Trying to micro manage the account

  • ultra specific interest targetting
  • thought he knew better than the platform on who would buy
  • the platform has data on people’s web history, how long watched every ad, what content they click, conversations they have in their homes (LOL)
  • algorithm has infinitiely better idea about whos interested in your product than we could ever hope to
  • once cAPI is setup between platform and website, will track every detail about every person that sees our ad
  • when finds someone who clicks, spends longer on an ad, checks out, purchases
  • once doing this at scale (thousands per day), we are targetting based on millions of data points
  • think like fishing, platform has every detail about every fish in the lake, including where they hang out and how hungry they are at every moment of the day
  • majority of people buying ads, load in tons of targetting, reduce audience size based on what they think will work best (in 2000s was best option)
  • algorithm has become exceptionally powerful in past decade
  • when you park your boat in a specific spot, will fish that little area until there is nothing left quickly
  • will need to find next spot to fish, ads exponentially more work and performance less specific
  • let algorithm do the work
  • they have ads running for over a year, still bringing in thousands daily because algorithm keeps finding new people to serve based off similarity to most recent people who bought
  • platform can create a funnel based on ads running to decide what best first touchpoint and what ad is most likely to make final conversion
  • only time to use interest based targetting is if starting out and selling extremely niche product (ex. accessories for harley davidson bikes) BUT still use without interest targetting to see what performs better

CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH
- if want to be successful with Meta ads, trust the machine, let go of ego
- spending $25k per day, current targetting is anyone and everyone on the entire planet
- they let algorithm take it from there, and it does a great job
- only thing it cannot do is run your numbers and determine if you’re profitable and can increase spend or if you’re NOT profitable and need to work on the funnel
