Scheduling 13 Flashcards
- How do you incorporate awkward procurement times into the construction network?
by adding a TASK BUBBLE between PROJECT START nd the CONSTRUCTION TASK needing the resource. Then you do the usual time calculations (Forward and Backward passes.)
- In complex cases that include several resources with a negative start day, you should:
incorporate a new task representing each awkward procurement detail into the basic construction network. CRUCIAL PROCUREMENT ACTIVITIES SHOULD NOW BE CONSIDERED TO BE A PART OF THE CONSTRUCTION PROJECT.
- The revised dates and floats from the updated schedule are then inserted back into columns #11 and #12 of the TICKLER SPREADSHEET and the events for the ordering process are updated. Then:
all the rows are rearranged so that the tasks with the earliest EST are first and the rest are in sequence.
- An objective of RESOURCE LEVELING is to smooth out wide swings in the daily application of certain resources, esp. work crews.
Management’s objective is to achieve a steadily working crew by rescheduling certain tasks by altering or adding precedence links into the network.
- When the schedule shows two tasks requiring the same piece of equipment at the same time, you decide which task should use it first by:
comparing the total float of both tasks, their FLOATS DETERMINE THEIR PRIORITIES.
- When two tasks start at the same time and require the same crew, and one has no float, you:
force the task with float to follow the other one by adding a SEQUENCING ARROW between their ACTIVITY CIRCLES.
- What is an alternative way to prioritize the tasks when a resource is needed at the same time?
to prioritize the tasks in order of their late start times.
- THE REMAINDER OF THIS CHAPTER DEALS WITH SMOOTHING RESOURCES, WHICH DOES NOT APPLY AT THE MOMENT.
