What is Schizophrenia?
The patient has had psychotic thinking or behavior for at least 6 months. Areas of functioning, including school or work, self-care, and interpersonal relationships are significantly impaired
Schizotypal
The patient has impairments of personality and functioning (self and
interpersonal), but impairment is not as severe as with schizophrenia
Criteria for Schizophrenia: (2 or more)
-Delusions
-Hallucinations
-Disorganized speech
-Gross disorganization or catatonia
-Negative symptoms
-Functional impairment of some kind
Associated Looseness:
(word salad)- most extreme form; jumble of words meaningless to the listener
Clang asssociation
Words chosen based on sound
Neologisms
meaning for the patient only
Echolalia
pathological repetition of another’s words
What is the main symptom of first-generation antipsychotics?
Extrapyramidal symptoms
Second Generation side effects?
Weight gain
