19
Q

The time required by a planet to make one complete turn on its axis represents a _____________ on that planet.

20
Q

The planets move around the sun in ________________ orbits.

21
Q

The four Planets closest to the sun are called the _______________- planets

A

terrestrial or inner

22
Q

The Center of the solar system in the ______________________

23
Q

Explain how all life on earth depends on energy from the sun

A

Photosynthesis is necessary for plants to produce food. This food is necessary to animal life either directly through eating animals that eat plants. Photosynthesis depends on light energy. We could NOT live without heat energy to warm the Earth, create climate, and so forth.

24
Q

Explain the source of the sun’s energy is the carbon cycle.

A

A six step reaction in which FOUR (4) hydrogen nuclei fuse to form one (1) helium nucleus. The carbon atom is involved as a catalyst. Vast energy is released in the carbon cycle.

25
Why are Mercury and Venus only visible at midnight?
They are on the Sun side of the Earth
26
When Mars is close to Earth, we see it large and bright. Why cannot Mercury and Venus be seen when they are closet to the Earth?
They are on the daytime side of the Earth. They are almost in direct line between Earth and Sun and cannot be seen so close to the Sun.
27
The planets are held in position by
Central force OR Gravitational pull of the sun
