Science- Diffusion + Osmosis Flashcards
(13 cards)
What happens is osmosis?
Water particles move from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration
Osmosis is a special term scientists use when referring to what?
The movement of water particles through a selectively permeable membrane
Permeable
Allows all materials to enter + leave
Selectively permeable
Allows nutrients to enter + wastes to exit (semi-permeable)
Impermeable
Do not allow any materials to enter or leave
Diffusion
The movement of particles from areas with higher concentration to an area with lower concentration. Particles will spread out and distribute themselves evenly
Rate of diffusion…as the temperature…
Increases
Decreases
More concentrated =
Diffuses faster
Refers to the amount of a substance in a given space
Concentration
Moves wastes from inside a cell to outside a cell
Diffusion
The process where oxygen is moved into the cell
Diffusion
The process where carbon dioxide is moved out of the cell
Diffusion
Osmosis
