What is the first step in the scientific method?
Make an observation that leads to a question.
What must a good investigative question include?
The independent and dependent variables.
What is a hypothesis?
A possible answer to the investigative question that includes the variables.
What is a control in an experiment?
A factor that does not change or affect results.
What are the types of variables in an experiment?
Independent (controlled), Dependent (measured), Controlled (kept constant).
What kind of graph is used when both variables change continuously?
Line graph.
What does the first column in a data table usually represent?
The independent variable.
What is the SI unit for temperature?
Degrees Celsius (°C) or Kelvin (K).
Convert 100 cm to meters.
1 meter.
Convert 500 000 mg to kg.
0.5 kg.

What is an element?
A pure substance that cannot be broken down by chemical methods.
What are the vertical columns in the Periodic Table called?
Groups.
Name 3 semi-metals.
Boron (B), Silicon (Si), Arsenic (As).
What are alkali metals?

Where are protons and neutrons found?
In the nucleus.
How do you calculate the number of neutrons?
N = Mass number (A) - Atomic number (Z)
What is a diatomic molecule?
Two identical atoms bonded (e.g., O₂, H₂).
What does H₂O stand for?
Water: 2 hydrogen atoms, 1 oxygen atom.
What kind of bonding forms molecules?
Chemical (usually covalent) bonds.
