How many types of cells are there? What are they?
There are 6 kinds of cells …plant, Protist, Animal, Bacterial, Fungal, Archaean
How do Bacteria Reproduce?
- Reproduce asexually
- Make a copy of their DNA
- Between two DNA molecules
- Binary Fission
What is another name for Archaea
Extremophiles
Describe how bacteria acquire new characteristics.
Bacteria acquire new characteristics by two bacteria build a tube between them and exchange small bits of DNA called Plasmids.
Why didn’t scientists realize Archaea was a unique kind of life until the 1970’s?
The technology wasn’t sophisticated enough to look at molecular structures inside cells.
How does yeast cause bread to rise?
Yeast gives off carbon dioxide as a waste product, The carbon dioxide creates bubbles which causes the bread to rise and gives the bread the airy texture.
Identify three or more positive ways bacteria interacts with other living things?
Bacteria are chemicals that humans use for other purposes
Bacteria help digest our food and makes vitamins
They help make some of the food humans eat
Decomposer- breaks down dead organisms
Used to make medicine
What is unique about a Fungal Cell?
- their spores can last hundreds of years.
- in a cubic centimeter of soil there may be 8 miles of hyphae.
- Fungal Cells are able to stop the flu.
- They are the largest living organism in the world.
- The cells are strung together
- They can be single or multi celled.
Why do bacteria give food a sour taste?
Bacteria give food a sour taste by consuming lactose and give off lactic acid as a waste product. The acid gives the food it’s sour taste.
List the three domains.
Eukaryota
Bacteria
Archaea
All multicellular organisms are in what domain?
Eukaryota domain.
Prokaryote
- Single celled
- no nucleus or organelles
Eukaryote
- Contains a nucleus and organelles
- Can be single or multi celled
