Secondary Structure Flashcards
(3 cards)
What are the two main secondary structures?
alpha-helix and beta-pleated sheet.
Describe the alpha helix
a tightly coiled backbone with R groups extending out and hydrogen bonds between NH and CO stabilising it
Describe the beta pleated sheet.
It can be a parallel sheet where the hydrogen bonds are between two amino acids not across from each other or antiparallel where hydrogen bonds are between amino acids across from each other.
