section 1.3,4,5 quiz Flashcards
(23 cards)
what is weight?
a measure of the force of gravity on you
what is mass?
a measure of the amount of matter an object contains
what is volume?
the amount of space an object contains
what is meniscus?
the curved upper surface of a liquid in a column of liquid.
what is density?
the mass per unit volume.
what is the Celsius Scale?
the temperature where water freezes at 0 degrees Celsius and freezes at 100 degrees Celsius
what is the Kelvin scale?
0 is the temperature at which no more energy can be removed from matter
what is absolute zero?
the temperature 0 K on the Kevin scale
what is an estimate?
an approximation of a number based on reasonable assumptions.
what is being accuracy?
how close a measurement is to the true or actual value.
what is reproducibility?
how close a group of measurements are to each other.
what are significant figures?
all of the digits that have been measured exactly, plus one digit whose value has been estimated.
what is precision?
the exactness of a measurement.
what is a graph?
a picture of the data.
what is a horizontal axis?
the x axis, the graph line that runs left to right.
what is the origin?
the point where the two axes cross.
what are si units?
units to measure length, volume, mass density, temperature, and time
what is a coordinate?
a pair of numbers that determines the position of the point on the graph.
what is a data point?
the point showing the location of that intersection.
what is the line of best fit?
a smooth line that reflects the general pattern of the line on the graph.
what is a linear graph?
the data points that yield a straight line.
what is the slope?
the steepness of the graph line.
what is a nonlinear graph?
the data points that do not fall on a straight line.
