Why was the election of 1800 significant? What was the outcome?

A

In this election Jefferson & Burr received the same # of electoral votes, The vote had to go to the House of Reps, The House finally voted for Jefferson. This election uses the 12th amendment, which sets up separate ballots for the President & Vice-President.

What happened to Alexander Hamilton?

A

Hamilton & Burr never liked each other bc of the Election of 1800. Burr had a secret plan to make NY & NJ their own country with him as President. Hamilton told gov, Burr challenged Hamilton to a duel in Weehawken, NJ.
