How do unburnt hydrocarbons and oxides of nitrogen contribute to photochemical smog?

A

They react with sunlight to produce ground level ozone. This then goes onto react with other pollutants to produce photochemical smog, which can cause respiratory issues, and particularly affect individuals with asthma.

How is sulfur dioxide converted to sulfuric acid?

A

It is released into the atmosphere, where it dissolves in water to form sulfuric acid. This can then cause acid rain, where structures can become corroded.

From the fermentation of sugar

From refining fenewable fats and oils. Mrs Woodman discussed how she used to do this with mcdonalds when she worked there.

This is formed from the breakdown of organic matter- CH4
