What is beatific vision?
Your encounter with God at your time of death
What is the body of Christ?
The people that are baptized
What is the Mystical Body of Christ?
It includes the Body of Christ but adds a spiritual element. Basically the mystical body of Christ are the people in heaven
What is the communion of saints?
It is anyone who is trying to live a good life
Who are the laity?
People who aren’t priests or ministers
What is particular judgement?
It refers to your own individual judgement
What is final judgement
Happens at the end of time during the 2nd coming
What is heaven?
Uniting with God after death for eternity
What is hell?
Absence of God, something that we decided for ourselves, self exclusion from being with God
What is purgatory?
Final cleansing of our souls before we go to heaven
What do the beatitudes teach us? Where do those teachings lead us?
They teach us to be humble. These teachings lead us to heaven if fulfilled
What helps us fulfill the teachings of the beatitudes?
Prayer, fasting, almsgiving
What are parables?
Stories that contain a lesson
Explain the message in the parable of the prodigal son
This parable shows how merciful God is. God is willing to accept us at any point in our lifetime
Explain the message in the parable of the rich man.
The message is that we need to have our priorities straight. We can’t be attached to material things
What are the greatest commandments?
- We need to love God with all our heart, soul, and strength
- We need to love our neighbor as ourselves
How do we reach eternal life?
Through faith in Jesus
Name examples of corporal works of mercy
Feed the hungry, give drinks to the thirsty, bury the dead, clothe the naked, and help the sick
Give examples of spiritual works of mercy
Praying for someone, giving advice to someone (counseling), comfort those who suffer, pray for the living and the dead
What is solidarity?
It is sharing what you have with others
How are we to live in the first commandment?
God wants us to worship and pray faithfully by resisting the temptation of other things like power or possessions more important than God
How are we to live in the second commandment?
We are to speak God’s name in reverence, love, and respect, and never with hatred, dishonesty and violence
How are we to live in the 3rd commandment?
God asks us to respect the sacredness of Sunday by participating in the celebration of the Eucharist
How are we to live in the 4th commandment?
God wills that we honor our parents to whom we owe our lives with respect, gratitude, just obedience, and assistance
