Questionnaire
It is a set of written questions on a topic to assess the participants’ thoughts, feelings and opinions. They are always pre-determined and structured. Can include open or closed questions or a mixture.
Closed question
Offers a fixed number of responses. It could be a yes or no or a fixed scale.
What kind of data do closed questions collect?
Quantitative
What is an advantage of quantitative data?
Easy to analyse
What is a disadvantage?
Not a lot of detail or participants may agree with the options given forcing them to give an invalid response.
Open questions
Doesn’t have a fixed range of answers and respondents are free to answer in any way they wish. They usually produce detailed responses.

What is the problem with sensitive issues?
People may not want to answer the questions truthfully (social desirability bias). This means that the findings will not be high in internal validity. Guaranteeing confidentiality can help with this issue.
