3
Q

how do you crystallise a product

A

put in evaporating dish and heat. some water will evaporate and solution will get more concentrated.
once water evaporated crystals will form

6
Q

how is simple distillation separated

A

solution heated
lowest BP of solution evaporates
vapour then cooled, condensed and collected
rest of solution left in the flask

Q

an example of what simple distillation can be used for and what is a problem with it

A

pure water from seawater

only use to separate things with different boiling points

10
Q

how is fractional distillation separated

A

put mixture in flask with a fractionating column and heat.
liquids have different boiling points so will evaporate at different temperatures
liquid with lowest BP evaporates first and then reaches the BP it will go to the top of the column
