São necessários 2 (dos quais 1 a febre ou leucocitose):

  1. Core temperature of >38.5°C or <36°C
  2. Tachycardia, or for children younger than one year of age, bradycardia
  3. Mean respiratory rate more than two standard deviations above normal for age or mechanical ventilation
  4. Leukocyte count elevated or depressed for age, or >10 percent immature neutrophils
