Q

How long does the service take?

A

Avg 45 minutes… 20-30 min for the outside and 10 min for the inside. It is fine to do the outside only if they aren’t experiencing problems outside and they won’t be home the next day.

It may be a little different depending on the size of the house or the type of bugs that are being treated. (30 min - 1 hr)

Q

What if they just want one treatment? Will that help?

A

What if they just get one treatment, won’t that help?
Yes. Initially it will help. The reason why we do a quarterly service is because bugs are persistent. If you just do a one and done treatment, they will likely come back just as soon as the product wears off and it will do nothing for their home long-term. We are not trying to scam them into getting treatments every 90 days; it is necessary to provide them with a service that will make a lasting impact. In fact, the one-and-done companies are more of a scam.

Q

Is it safe?

A

Our treatments are safe for most people.

If they have asthma, COPD, or any other disorder that makes them easily affected by aerosols, then we would most likely treat just the outside of the home to be safe.

It is safe for pregnant women, but their doctors may still advise against it in some cases. Typically you tell them, “The only difference is you have a heightened sense of smell. Nobody else will smell it.”

Q

If my neighbor gets treated, will all of their bugs come over to my house?

A

It sounds lame and like a fear tactic but it DOES happen. Bugs follow the same rule that water does - they gravitate towards the house with the least resistance. So no their house won’t be infested over night, but YES, there will be an increase in bug activity over time, on the side of their home closest to the neighbor treated.

Q

Can we avoid a certain type of bug they don’t want killed?

A

Our products are designed to take care of all the bugs so even though their kids love the rolly pollies they will also be affected by our treatment. Remind them that on the outside, they will still have plenty of bugs. We don’t kill every living thing on their property.

Q

Do we treat Yards?

A

This is not alawn care service (we don’t have a Lawn and Ornamental license), but we will spot-treat if there are some areas of their yard that could use a treatment. We will not treat their whole lawn; this is not a spot-treatment.

We are a “Residential” pest control company, so we mainly treat STRUCTURES (home, shed, playset, mailbox, etc…)

Q

What about pets? Will it harm them?

A

The only pets that may be affected are very exotic and expensive birds and fish; cover their cages and tanks with a towel when we treat inside.
If hairspray or windex would kill their pet, then so will our product.

Q

After 1 year of treatment, should they stop and wait a couple of years and then sign up when it gets bad again?

A

No, of course not. Our product lasts 90 days. After one year of treatment many of the bugs will have made their home elsewhere. However, 90 days from their last treatment the bugs will make their way back. This tactic of saying they can wait a few years with NO bugs is a way of getting someone to sign up for a year, but it is not honest or ethical. They will continue to need the service in the years to come. This is a maintenance program, not a “one-year kill all and never see bugs again” program. Tell them the average customer stays for 5-7 years.

Q

Do they need to put their pets away?

A

If their pets are good around strangers then they don’t need to, but it is probably easier for our technician to treat the home if they aren’t being followed around by a curious puppy, or an aggressive predator .

Q

Do we treat trees?

A

We will treat the base of trees if needed (usually for ants), but at a certain height by law an Arborist is required to treat.

Q

Any bugs that we WILL not treat?

A

Honey bees are illegal to treat (they are good for the environment and do no harm to us), but hives can be moved to a new location.

  • Flies are flies. The product will kill them on contact and they MAY see a reduction, but they will always be around, flying through windows, etc… So we don’t technically treat them specifically. Same goes for mosquitos and fleas/ticks in the yard.
17
Q

What if they are on contract with another company?

A

MOST people in Ohio who say they already have a bug guy, will have a local guy they call maybe once a year. They’ll do a one-time shot for $150-200, typically just for ants/spiders, and only guarantee it for a season. The only reason these people don’t have a qtrly service is because they haven’t seen the value in it yet, which is your job to show them. Just like our company, some other companies (Terminix/Orkin) will have them on contract for one year and then after that initial year, they are on a quarterly basis and can cancel at any time . There is a small chance that they renewed another year contract and paid the year in advance, which would leave them with a penalty if they left their company, but that would be very rare.

18
Q

If you are a local company why are you from out of state?

A

You can say what you like, but usually you just say, “Yeah, I’m from Utah and work with this company every summer to get through school.” If they want to learn more, people will understand the way our company works if you explain it clearly. Insight recruits for these positions in Utah and Idaho because there are a lot of returned missionaries with high standards, who are also very good with people. This is a seasonal job and therefore fits your needs to make money but also go to school. Not many people are willing to work as hard as returned Mormon missionaries. You knocked on doors for 2 years and so you were willing to do a job that most wouldn’t want to do.

19
Q

Are there any hidden fees with our service?

A

There are NO hidden fees. In fact, the only fee they’d ever pay is if they don’t keep their commitment for the year and we are doing our job. Then there’s a cancellation fee of $100 plus the discount of their initial (usually another $100 or more). This makes it stupid for them to cancel during the first year for no reason, because that’s about a $200 cancellation fee. This is good for you as well, because you will have very few people cancel. Also remember with certain bug situations that are SERIOUS, you need to up-charge on the initial service at least.

Example: If a customer gets a discount from $240 to $120 on their initial service, but gets their home serviced only twice and just cancels without giving us a chance to re-treat, they will lose $220 ($120 discount on initial, plus a $100 cancellation fee)

Examples of up-charge on initial: wants fence-line sprayed, big german roach problem in kitchen, big shed in back treated inside and out, multiple units (like a duplex), flea or tick infestation in a room indoors, etc…

Q

Pricing…

A

Regular new customer: Minimum of $109/qtr, which is $436 for their 1 year

Switchover customer: Minimum of $99/qtr, which is $396 for their 1 year

You must get a physical copy from the customer showing they have been serviced by another pest control company some time in the last 6 months (invoice, bank statement, etc…). It needs to show the company name, date of service, and price.

The price stays the same after the first year (it may go up like $2-3/qtr based on the industry and economy, but that’s it

Typically, the service costs anywhere from $220-250 for the initial service and anywhere from $120-150/qtr after that, depending on the size of their home…if they were to call us to their home on a random day. With our “route discount,” we usually quote them at $120-140 on their initial service and $120-130/qtr after that. Then, if you need to continue negotiating with them, you have some flexibility down to $109, or $99 for a SO (switchover).
