Aneurysm
- A sac (balloon-like swelling) in the wall of an artery 2. A sac formed by abnormal dilation of the weakened wall of a blood vessel
Ampule
Sealed glass container that holds a single sterile dose of drug (usually in liquid, power or crystal form)
Apex
The tip/point end of an organ i.e., heart
Abduction
movement of body part away from median/midline
Abrasion
A rubbed or scraped area on the skin or mucous membrane

Anaphylaxis
Extreme sensitivity to an allergen. Acute-onset swelling of the mucousal tissue in the trachea. Causes life-threatening obstruction of the airway
Aseptic
Sterile; free from pathogenic microorganisms
Allergic Reaction
- The hypersensitive response of the immune system of an allergic individual to a substance 2. An adverse reaction to a substance which usually produces no adverse reaction in normal individuals
Antiseptic
A chemical that destroys/inhibits the growth of disease-causing bacteria and other microorganisms
Aphagia
Loss of the ability to swallow
Abscess
A painful area of inflamed tissue that is filled with pus

Temporary absence or cessation of breathing
Anus
The opening of the lower end of the digestive tract (alimentary canal) through which feces are discharged
Ascities
Accumulation of fluid in the peritoneal cavity causing abdominal swelling

Rapid onset of a disease, severe symptoms and brief in duration
Anemia
A reduction in the quantity of oxygen carrying hemoglobin in the blood. Leading to weakness and pallor.
