what is pollination?
pollination is the transfer of polllen grains from the anther to the stigma
what are the two types of pollination?
self-pollination and cross-pollination
what is self-pollination?
self-pollination is the transfer of pollen grains from the anther to the stigma of the same flower or a different flower on the same plant.
what are the 2 features of self-pollination
Bisexual flowers with anthers and stigma maturing at the same time.
The stigma is directly below the anthers, so pollen falls onto it easily.
what is cross-pollination?
cross-pollination is the transfer of pollen grains from one plant to the stigma of a flower in another plant of the same species.
such flowers have features that attract insects. it includes:
-presence of nectar
-petals are large and brightly coloured
-petals have nectar guides to guide the insect to the nectar
-flowers are fragnant
what is the opening in the ovary through which the pollen enters the ovule
