- study consisted of 60 babies (31 M and 29 F) all from Glagow majority from sklled working class families. babies and their mothers visited every month at their home for the first year and again for 18 months, researcher asked questions about the type of protest babies showed in 7 everday seperations ( e.g speration anxeity ) and stranger anxiety.

• between 25 and 32 weeks of age 50% of infants showed seperation anxiety usually towards their mother( attatchment). Attachment tnenet to be the caregiver who was most interactive and senstive to infants signalsand facial expressions( reciprocity)
• by age 40 weeks 80% of babies had spesific attachment and slmost 30% had multiple attachment.

• good external validity: carried out in the families homes and most of observations carried out by parents during ordinary activites and were reported to them later on. therfore behaviour of the baby unlikelt ot be affected by presence of the observer.
• it was a longnitudinal design therefore smae children were followed up and observed regularly so it has better internal validity as ots the same participants therefore dont have the confoudnig variables of indvidual differences between patricipants( participant varibles.
