Shape 1 Flashcards
(11 cards)
What is the area of a shape?
What’re it’s units ?
•The amount of space enclosed within a shape.
•Only for 2 dimensional shapes
•Units for area are cm²
What is the perimeter of a shape ?
What are the units used ?
•The total distance around the edge of a 2 dimensional shape
•The units for perimeter are cm
What is the volume of a shape ?
What are the units used ?
•The total amount of space within a 3D shape
•It’s units are cm³
How do you calculate the area of a square / rectangle ?
•You just multiply the length of the base by the height
How do you calculate the volume of a cube ?
•You multiply the base, height and widthtogether.
How do you calculate the perimeter of a shape ?
•You add up all the side lengths of the shape
How do you calculate the area of a triangle ?
•First, you multiply the base and height values, like for a square
•Then you half this number
•You do this as a triangle will only take up half the amount of space as a square with the same base and height.
What is Pythagoras theroum and what is it used for ?
•a² + b² = c²
•This equation is used to work out missing lengths in right angle triangles
•c is always the longest length (opposite the right angle)
•a and b can be either of the other two lengths.
How many degrees are in a triangle ?
•180°
•This means that if you add up all the angles it will =180
How many degrees are in a 4 sided shape (square, rectangle, kite)
•360°
•This means that if you add all the angles in a 4 sided shape it will =360
