Rising action
A related series of incidents that lead up to the climax
Setting
Place where a story/event takes place
Antagonist
“Bad guy” opposes the protagonist
Irony
The use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning
Theme
The subject of a piece of writing
Tone
The general attitude of a place, piece of writing or situation
Realism
Representing familiar things as they actually are.
Resolution
The action of solving a problem
Protagonist
Main character-doesn’t always have to be the good guy
Characterization
How the author develops the characters especially the main character(indirect and direct)
Climax
The most exciting or important part of a story
Conflict
A struggle between two opposing forces ex man vs man
Empathy
The ability to understand and share the feelings of another
Exposition
Section that introduces characters, setting and conflicts
Foreshadowing
A warning or indication of (a future event)
Falling Action
The part of a literary plot that occurs after the climax has been reached. These events are a result of the climax
Mood
Suggestive of a particular feeling or state of mind
Narrator
A person who narrates something, especially a character who recounts the events of a novel or narrative poem
Plot
Series of related events that make up a story.
Flashback
A scene in a movie, novel, etc., set in a time earlier than the main story.
First Person Point of View
One of the characters is actually telling the story “I”
Third person omnisient
Third person omniscient is a point of view where the narrator knows all the thoughts, actions, and feelings of all characters. “He & She”
Third Person Objective
In third-person objective, the narrator simply describes what is happening to the characters in the story and does not show us anyone’s thoughts or feelings
Suspense
A quality of work that makes a reader feel uncertain or tense about the events.
