1
Q

Scapulohumeral (intrinsic shoulder) muscles

A

deltoid, supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, teres major, subscapularis

2
Q

Attachments of deltoid

A

Proximal: lateral third of clavicle, acromion and spine of scapula
Distal: deltoid tuberosity of humerus

3
Q

Innervation of deltoid

A

axillary nerve (C5, C6)

4
Q

Action of deltoid

A

anterior: flex and medially rotates arm
acromial (middle): abducts arm
posterior: extends and laterally rotates arm

5
Q

Attachments of supraspinatus

A

Proximal: supraspinous fossa of scapula
Distal: superior facet of greater tubercle of humerus (via strong flat tendon)

6
Q

Innervation of supraspinatus

A

suprascapular nerve (C5, C6)

7
Q

Action of supraspinatus

A

initiates (first 15 degrees) and assists deltoid in abduction of arm and acts with rotator cuff

8
Q

Attachments of infraspinatus

A

Proximal: infraspinous fossa of scapula
Distal: middle facet of greater tubercle of humerus

9
Q

Innervation of infraspinatus

A

suprascapular nerve (C5, C6)

10
Q

Action of infraspinatus

A

laterally rotates arm and helps hold humeral head in glenoid cavity of scapula, acting with rotator cuff

11
Q

Action of teres minor

A

laterally rotates arm and acts with rotator cuff

12
Q

Attachments of teres minor

A

Proximal: middle part of lateral border of scapula
Distal: inferior facet of greater tubercle of humerus

13
Q

Innervation of teres minor

A

axillary nerve (C5, C6)

14
Q

Attachments of teres major

A

Proximal: posterior surface of inferior angle of scapula
Distal: medial lip of intertubercular sulcus of humerus

15
Q

Innervation of teres major

A

lower subscapular nerve (C5, C6)

16
Q

Action of teres major

A

adducts and medially rotates arm at shoulder

17
Q

Attachments of subscapularis

A

Proximal: subscapular fossa
Distal: lesser tubercle of humerus

18
Q

Innervation of subscapularis

A

upper and lower subscapular nerves (C5, C6)

19
Q

Action of subscapularis

A

medially rotates arm, helps hold head of humerus in glenoid cavity (part of rotator cuff), adducts arm

20
Q

Rotator cuff muscles

A

SITS - supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, subscapularis

21
Q

Scapulohumeral muscles

A

deltoid
teres major
rotator cuff muscles (supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, subscapularis)

22
Q

Pectoral girdle joints

A

sternoclavicular (SC) joint
acromioclavicular (AC) joint
glenohumeral joint

23
Q

Sternoclavicular joint

A

saddle joint
ONLY bony attachment of upper extremity to axial skeleton
strong ligaments–>clavicle fractures before tear

24
Q

Acromioclavicular joint

A

plane joint
lesser mobility
site of shoulder separations

25
Q

Glenohumeral joint

A
ball-and-socket joint
MOST mobile joint in body
labrum and bursae!
no inferior reinforcement
site of shoulder dislocations (usually inferiorly)
26
Q

Site of shoulder dislocations

A

glenohumeral joint (usually inferiorly)

27
Q

Site of shoulder separations

A

acromioclavicular joint

28
Q

Blood supply of deltoid

A

posterior circumflex humeral artery (mostly, also: anterior circumflex humeral, deltoid branch of thoracoacromial, and profunda brachii)

29
Q

Blood supply of teres minor

A

lateral circumflex humeral artery + circumflex scapular artery

30
Q

Blood supply of teres major

A

thoracodorsal artery

31
Q

Blood supply of supraspinatus

A

suprascapular artery

32
Q

Blood supply of infraspinatus

A

suprascapular artery

33
Q

Blood supply of subscapularis

A

subscapular artery
