Q

Development of Limb Bones

A

Cartilage models form (cartilage is softer than bone), cartilage model is replaced by bone, cartilage remandes at ends of bone and at epiphyseal plate

Q

Epiphyseal plate

A

cartilage between diaphysis and epiphysis. Bones is added here to lengthen bones. Becomes replaced by bone at maturity.

16
Q

large intestine

A

shorter, large-diameter intestine

17
Q

Gut

A

digestive tube. Forms by folding at sides, head, tail

18
Q

Gut folding at sides

A

ectoderm and mesoderm fold toward chest. Folds of mesoderm enclose endoderm. Endoderm forms inside of gut, mesoderm surrounds inside of gut.

19
Q

Foregut

A

gut at head of embryo. Formed by folding at head and sides. Forms pharynx, esophagus, stomach, beginning of small intestine.

20
Q

Midgut

A

Gut at middle of embryo. Open to yolk sac. Forms most of small intestine and most of large intestine.

21
Q

Hindgut

A

gut at “tail” of embryo. Formed by folding at “tail” and sides. Forms end of large intestine.

22
Q

Esophagus

A

comes from foregut. Starts as short tube. Grows in length.

23
Q

Stomach

A

comes from foregut. Enlarges to achieve basic shape. Rotates into place, pulls attached organs into place too.

24
Q

Small intestine

A

from foregut + midgut. Grows too big to fit in torse, so part pushes into umbilical chord.

25
Abdominal cavity
cavity in lower half of torso. Growth provides room for intestines to return into torse. Intestines rotate into final position.
26
Large intestine
comes from midgut + hindgut.
27
Urorectal septum
tissue that divides urinary and digestive system. Grows and separates hind gut.
