What is science?
Science is knowledge of the natural world based on evidence and testing of the idea.
What is a scientific investigation?
It is a plan for asking questions and testing possible answers. It begins with an observation leading to curiosity.
What is a hypothesis?
A hypothesis is a possible logical answer to the question.
What are the steps of the scientific investigation?
- Identifying a problem
- Forming a hypothesis
- Planning the experiment
- control variables
- Carrying out the investigation (Collecting & analyzing data)
- Reporting
What is a qualitative observation?
An observation we use our senses to observe. A quality.
What is a quantitative observation?
Measurement or amount
What is the independent variable?
The variable that you control or vary to find the experiment affects.
What is a dependent variable?
The variable that is being measured or tested and depends on the independent variable.
What is the control?
An experimental element that is constant
What is a line graph?
A line graph is used to show change over time. They are used when you have data that are connected & to show trends.
What is a bar graph?
It is used to compare two things. It shows numbers that are independent. Categories on the x-axis and numbers on the y-axis.
What is a pie chart?
Shows a whole divided into parts. Shows percentage from a whole.
