skin, epithelium and fascia Flashcards
(19 cards)
how are the different types of epithelium named
Epithelial tissues are named based on the shape of their cells and the number of cell layers
Simple Squamous location
found in lungs for gas exchange and rapid diffusion
simple cubodial location
kidney tubules, glandular ducts
simple columnar location
lines stomach and intestine
stratified squamous location
found in the skin (keratinized), protects against abrasion and water loss
stratified cubodial and columnar location
sweat glands
transitional location
bladder
Pseudostratified Columnar location
respiratory tract
epidermis primary cell type and function
keratinocytes, protection to external environment eg abrasions
dermis primary cell type and function
fibroblasts, houses blood vessels
Subcutaneous tissue/superficial fascia primary cell type and function
keratinocytes, adipocytes, insulation and fat storage
deep fascia primary cell type and function
fibroblasts, packages and protects the body structures
retinaculum primary cell type and function
fibroblasts, stabilise and hold tendons across joints
order the layers of skin from surface to deep
epidermis
dermis
Subcutaneous tissue/superficial fascia
deep fascia
retinaculcum
what type of tissue is the epidermis made from
stratified squamous epithelial tissue.
what type of tissue is the dermis made from
dense irregular connective tissue
what type of tissue is the subcutaneous tissue/ superficial tissue made from
adipose tissue
what type of tissue is the deep fascia made from
dense regular connective tissue
Structure of skin
Epidermis: composed of keratinized stratified squamous epithelium.
Dermis: dense irregular CT.
