Absorption, regulation, secretion, excretion, protection and sensation.

The skin is the largest organ of the body and has many different functions.

What is the Epidermis?
The epidermis is the outer most layer of the skin, as skin cells die they go upward to the surface.
What is the Dermis?
Also known the true skin. This layer contains tissue, proteins, Cologne and elastin.
What is the subcutaneous?
The bottom most layer of the skin, contains fatty tissue helps to keep us warm, protects our organs, gives us shape, contains nerves pores and arteries.
What are the sub layers of the skin?
Corneum, lucidum, granulosum, spinosum, germinativum.
What are the two glands found in the subcutaneous layer of the skin?
The sudoriferous glands (sweat glads). The sebaceous gland (oil glads) Sebum.
What is the stratum corneum?
It is the horny layer! It is the toughest layer of skin. It carries karetin.
What is the stratum lucidum?
Thick skin found on palms and feet, it has no hair follicles.
What is the Stratum granulosum?
Dead skin cells being pushed to keratinize.
What is the stratum spinosum?
Is where melanin is. It gives us pigment
What is the stratum germinativum?
The bottom most layer, it is where new skin cells are produced.
What are the factors that influence the quality of ones skin?
Some factors are; diet, smoking, exposure to sun, hydration, environment, proper cleansing and sleep.
Skin colour depends on person to person because of ______. It also protects us from ________.
Melanin
It protects us from UV Rays aswell.
What are the types of skin?
Oily, dry, normal, and combination.
If I person has an oily “T” zone but seems to have dry checks, what skin type would they be?
Combination, it is the most common type.
This type of skin makes the persons skin look shinny, said person will often have slight acne
