Can you give IV NTG right away for treatment of angina?
No, Administer Sublingual NTG before IV.
When is it best to use a long acting nitrate?
If the person cannot tolerate a beta blocker.
What are the counseling pearls of SL NTG?
Take sitting down
Dissolve under the tongue
Take 3 doses every 5 minutes
Call 911 if chest pain is not relieved
How long should a patient pause long acting nitrates in order to avoid tolerance?
10-14 hours

Every 6 months for SL

What is the contraindication for NTG?
PDE5 inhibitors (Tadalafil, Sildenafil))

24 hours- Sildenafil

Ongoing chest pain, persistent ischemia not relieved by 3 doses of SL NTG

Oxygen if O2 sat<90 and high intensity Statins
