a device that allows a user to pass information to a computer

by processing the reflection from a laser onto a disk. binary is stored using pits and lands

by reading positive and negative charges from a disk and translating them into binary

electrons are forced into floating gates between 2 oxide layers which causes the charge to change. the charge is then read as binary
