What at the nexus criteria questions?
- Is there midline tenderness?
- Is there an altered LOC?
- Is there a major distracting injury?
- Is the patient intoxicated?
- Is there new neurological deficits?
Who is in the high risk group for SMR?
Those over the age of 65
Patients with osteoporosis
Patients with pre existing spinal conditions
If the patient has a multi trauma accident, what kind of SMR is required?
Full SMR is required.
If the patient is not in a multi trauma accident, but is high risk, what kind of SMR is required?
Simple SMR.
If the patient is not in a multi trauma accident and is not a high risk patient but, meets nexus criteria, what kind of SMR is required?
Simple SMR.
What is simple SMR?
Simple SMR is when the patient is just needs a cervical collar and can be on the cot.
What is full SMR?
Full SMR is when all spinal precautions need to be taken. Clamshell, collar.
