What makes up the cardiovascular stystem?
The cardiovascular system is formed by our heart and blood vessels. Cardio means the heart and vascular means blood vessels
What are the 3 main functions of the cardiovascular system?
Transports oxygen , carbon dioxide and nutrients
Clots blood
It controls the body temperature
What is the significance of cardiovascular system transporting oxygen, carbon dioxide and nutrients?
The heart pumps oxygen around the body which is used in respiration snd production of energy in the cells.
The harder the muscles work, the harder the heart has to work
What is the significance of cardiovascular system clotting blood?
Blood contains platelets which help clots our blood and forms scabs which help to stop bleeding. In some sports small cuts are common and so this is important
What is the significance of cardiovascular system controlling the body’s temperature?
If you get too hot the blood vessels close to the skin get bigger (vasodilation). Blood is diverted to the surface to allow more heat to radiate out.
If you become too cold your vessels get smaller (vasoconstriction) to avoid heat being lost.
What is a vascular shunt?
Blood diverted from certain parts of the body to others. Usually from organs to working muscles in exercise so that they have an adequate supply of oxygen to provide energy to meet the demands of an activity. Blood is diverted away from inactive areas in order to increase blood flow in working areas.
What triggers vascular shunting
The hormone called adrenaline
What is adrenaline
A hormone which the body creates to bring about a change in your hear rate to beat faster.
