Soc 16 Structure Of Blood Vessels Flashcards
(3 cards)
4 main characteristics of arteries
Take blood away from the muscles , have a thick wall and more elastic than veins as they carry blood which is higher pressure than veins as they carry oxygenated blood , the channel blood through called lumen and can widen to allow more blood through when you exercise it can reach the working muscles , the pulmonary artery is different from other arteries as it carries deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs
Four main characteristics pf the vein
Carry blood into the heart , have much thinner walls are less elastic and carry blood at low pressure , contain many valves which help deoxygenated blood flow to the heart , the pulmonary vein is different to other veins as it carries oxygenated blood from the lungs back to the heart
What are the four main characteristics of capillaries
-microscopic vessels ,just one cell thick
-at one end capiliaries carry oxygenated blood which transfers oxygenated blood and nutrients /water
-at the other end ,they carry deoxygenated blood into the veins picking up waste products
-capillaries are where gas exchange takes place
