What is feminism?
The belief that women should posses the same political and economic rights as men
What is the Counter Culture?
A culture with lifestyles and values opposed to those of the established culture
Who is Betty Friedan?
An American feminist, activist and write. Best known for starting the “Second Wave” of feminism through the writing of her book, “The Feminine Mystique.”
What is the Equal Rights Amendment?
A constitutional amendment passed by Congress but never ratified. It would ban discrimination based on gender.
What is “NOW”?
The National Organization of Women. First president, Betty Freidan wanted the Equal Opportunity Commission (EEOC) to enforce its legal mandate to end sex discrimination.
What are “hippies”?
Members of the youthful counterculture that dominated many college campuses in the 1960s. Rather than promoting a political agenda, they challenged conventional sexual standards, rejected traditional economic values, and encourage the use of drugs.
What was Woodstock?
. A three-day rock concert in upstate NY in August 1969. It became a symbol of the late 1960s counterculture.
