What are folkways?
Informal norms that guide everyday behaviour learned through socialization and it has mild social consequences.

What are mores?
Strong moral norms that carry severe social penalties when violated

Formal guidelines for behaviour within specific places, set by groups or institutions and has formal sanctions when violated
What are laws?
Codified rules enforced by legal institutions for society with serious formal sanctions for violations
What are sanctions?
Positive and negative mechanisms to reward conformity or punish deviance. Both formal and informal.
How does social control operate?
Through both formal and informal methods to maintain order
What does informal control involve?
It relies on social expectations and pressure. Breaking them leads to minor consequences like disapproval
What does formal control involve?
It involves established rules including laws and breaking them results in formal sanctions like fines or imprisonment.
