ASH STUDY

A

Procedure:
123 male students were tested, Participants were told to call out which of the three lines they thought was the same as the standard line with the real participants answering second to last. Ash was interested in whether the real participants would stick to what they believed was right or what others had said.
Findings:
33% of the participants agreed with the incorrect participants.

Variables affecting conformity

A

Group size:
The pressure of 3 confederates, the proportion of conformity increased by 30%. Further increases in size did not have an effect on conformity which suggests that 3 confederates are optimal for conformity.
