learning

A

Research q – Watson and Rayner classically conditioned little albert into developing a phobia of rats. This could lead to the abuse of the ability to construct a phobia in others so could be used as a torture method - However, this has helped develop treatments through knowledge of acquisition of phobias (SD)
Bandura aim was to see if aggression could be imitated in children through observation and imitation of role models. This could lead to misuse of knowledge to artificially create aggression - However, knowledge of impact of negative role models can be used in intervene where there is a negative role model.

Q

social

A

Sherif – wanted to see whether two groups bought into contact with each other and competition will become hostile towards each other. This could’ve led to diffusion of responsibility over discrimination acts increasing racism within society - Justified due to superordinate goals
Milgram - findings that people will obey destructive orders from a legitimate authority figures has been used as defence at the war crimes trial of those American soldiers accused of the torture and brutal treatment of Iraqi prisoners in Abu ghraib. Therefore, this is seen as socially sensitive as it gives scapegoat for people diffusing the responsibility for their actions onto others - justified by highlighting need to educate those in roles
