Causes:

  • Cyst due to localised haemorrhage
  • Adenoma (benign follicular tissue)
  • Carcinoma
  • Lymphoma
  • Prominent nodule in multi-nodular goitre

Investigations: How do we investigate solitary thyroid nodules?

A
  • Fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) guided by ultrasound scanning
    (FNAC on its own cannot distinguish between follicular adenoma and follicular carcinoma)
