Disadvantages
The promise of heaven is not enough to make up for the immense suffering ofchildren. Allows for too much evil for god to exist as it doesn’t justify the immense level of moral evil
No amount of evil can justify the burning of children
People should not atempt to justify innocent beings being tortured completely undeservedly in the manner people were during the Holocaust
Doesn’t explain animal suffering
Fawn analogy, epistemic distance does not benefit animals as animals are excluded from ‘soul making’, their suffering does not lead to second virtue orders like courage.
If all are guaranteed to go to heaven what is the point of pilgrimage and hell
What is the soul making theodicy
God has a paternalistic relationship to his creation, wants them to develop and learn from suffering and challenges to develop heir character. We cannot experience greater goods without being exposed to evils.
Gd created at an epistemic distance he uses this to study all kinds of evil including pointless, moral and natural because of his thesis that the end(heaven) trumps over the means
