-cut away to a different scene but typically to identify that it is happening at the same time -whatever you cross cut to it can change the meaning

-someone inside a house on fire and it changes to fire engine then back to the person

-a sequence of 3 edits together

-one character is seen looking at the another character then it shows the other character and then goes back to the character (in conversations)

-when you cut to what the person is looking at -usually a pov shot
