Space & Satellites Flashcards
(30 cards)
What is weight?
Weight is due to the pull of gravity. It is a force and it is calculated in Newtons. The equation to find the weight of somthign is mass x gravity.
What is mass?
Mass never changes, we use Kg for it. The mass of an object is how much matter it has.
The planet has a _____ mass, there is more force afting on it. But it also _____ as you go away from the sun.
The planet mas a bigger mass, there is more force acting on ig. But it also decreases as you go away from the sun.
Day
24 hours, the time it takes the earth to spin in its axis
Moon
A large lump of rock orbiting around a planet
Orbit
The path that a planet takes around the sun
Sun
The star that earth and other planets orbit
Year
The length of time it takes a planet to go around the sun
Solar system
A star with planets and other objects orbiting it
Asteroid
A small lump of rock arbiting around the sun
Constellation
A pattern of stars
Galaxies
Billions of stars geouped together
Milky way
The galaxy that our solar system is in
Star
A huge ball of gas that gives out heat and light energy
Universe
All the galaxies and the space between them
The temprature of a planet _____ as it ____ from the sun
The temperature of a planet cools down as it goes away from the sun
A yearly orbit of a planet with _______ from the sun as they need to go through ________
A yearly orbit of a planet with it’s distainer from the sun as they need to go through differnt distances
The distances _____ can be _______
The distance discussed in a space topic can be enormous
Light year
The distance that light travels in a year
Light year equation
9.46 x 10 (12) km or 9.46 x 10 (15)m
What is a satellite
A satellite is anything that is orbiting around a planet
What is polar orbiting?
A satellites used to take pictures of the earth, it is an earth observation satellites.
What is geostationary?
It is a communciation satellite, used to transmit TV programs of telescope calls. It is always over the same part of earth
What is the difference between a man-made satellite and a natural satellite
It is how they are made. Man made satellites are launched into space by artificail satellitws, while the moon that is not artificially made, are called natural satellites
