The aim of the uprising
To overthrow Ebert’s government and set up a revolutionary communist regime.
Where was the uprising?
Berlin
What took place?
Newspaper offices and buildings were occupied
Why did it fail?
Poorly supported (Hadn’t secured the majority of the working class)
poorly prepared
Groener used Freikorps units to stop the uprisers
What happened in result of the uprising?
The two leaders were executed
Left wing challenges
Worker were disillusioned with the revolution to establish a new republic
Economic conditions bred disorder which demobilised soldiers found it hard to adjust to civilian life
KPD has strong support in industrial centres (Ruhr, Saxony)
Lacked the proper support or determination
