The signing of the ToV left many Germans profoundly shocked
They found it humiliating
Believed it dictated a peace treaty
Few would accept moral responsibility for fulfilling the treaty
Territory consequences/reactions
Many original German citizens were now living in non German states (Poland etc.) since the colonies being returned.
East Prussia was separated from the rest of Germany due to the Polish Corridor.
This overall caused more resentment and anger
War Guilt clause reactions
This was seen as unjust
Germans believed that they were encircled in a war that the Allies persisted.
They blame other countries for ww1
Reparation reactions
They crippled the Germany’s economy for a large amount of time after the treaty
The payment was seen as far too high
