43
Q

What is an DVRS____.

A

Digital Vehicle Repeater System (DVRS)

44
Q

The current configuration of the DVRS only allows ____ DVRS to be Primary at a time.

A

one (1)

45
Q

The current configuration of the DVRS only allows one (1) DVRS to be Primary at a
time. This is determined by _____; all other units will become secondary units.

A

the first unit to turn theirs on

46
Q

To limit the delay in activating the DVRS when problems arise,

A

the first arriving Engine or Truck on Side A (Alpha) of the dispatched address shall ACTIVATE their DVRS on ALL multi-unit responses, regardless of known issues or not.

47
Q

In regard What is Permanent Primary?

A

Permanent Primary is a feature that allows another unit to “take” the primary function from the unit acting as the current primary. By default, the first unit that is turned on will become the Primary. At the direction of incident command,

48
Q

IF VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH A DVRS POWER SWITCH, IT SHALL REMAIN IN THE ____ POSITION AT ALL TIMES (This switch is being phased out)

A

ON

49
Q

In a similar fashion under normal conditions the portable radio will ___ out of range, during phase members can continue to press the PTT button and a “telephone style” alert will be heard. This is a failsafe that allows radio transmissions on the corresponding direct channel with other radios in their range

A

“HONK”

50
Q

When traditional means of correcting radio coverage challenges are not effective, the only way to quickly overcome radio communication problems will be to utilize a ____ operation.

A

“radio relay”

51
Q

“radio relay” operation, the most beneficial way to achieve this is by strategically placing two members, or one member with two radios in an area that can still communicate with outside resources as well as members on the direct talk channel. In larger buildings more than one member maybe needed between the incident and the primary radio relay member. To achieve the best results _____.

A

one (1) member/radio should be on the tac channel, and the second (2nd) member/radio should be on the relay channel.

52
Q

What does DVRS stand for?

A

Digital Vehicle Repeater System

53
Q

How does the DVRS work?

A

When activated, the DVRS creates a local repeater site at the scene of an incident with hopes to broadcast a stronger signal into the area of operations. This works by using a conventional radio frequency that gets rebroadcasted back to the public safety system P25 radio system.

54
Q

Why do I hear radio traffic on a Direct Channel?

A

The DVRS uses conventional radio channels to
rebroadcast messages. In this instance, if there is a team operating on 016, and a DVRS get turned on in the area, they will start hearing
transmissions from the corresponding DVRS channel.

55
Q

Why should I use the Opposite Direct Channel?

A

using the opposite direct channel from that of the one used by the DVRS will eliminate the possibility of any confusion between portable radios who have repeater signal and portable radios that do not have radio signal (Radio Relay Operations). This will eliminate the possibility of missing transmissions or stepping on another transmission you wont hear if out of range.

56
Q

Why the 1st Arriving Engine or Truck on Side Alpha? Why?

A

Only units that are on the scene and closest to the incident should active their DVRS.
Units that are staged away from the incident or still responding should NOT activate their DVRS; because The current configuration of the
DVRS only allows one (1) DVRS to be Primary at a time, this is determined by the first unit to turn theirs on, all other units will become
secondary units.

57
Q

What is Permanent Primary?

A

Is a feature that allows another unit to “take” the primary function from the unit acting as the current
primary. By default, the 1st unit that is turned on will become the Primary. At the direction of incident command, a vehicle in a better
position may be directed to activate their DVRS, without turning off the other units DVRS, they would be recognized as a secondary unit.
By pressing and holding the DVRS button once on will force that unit into the Primary Role without having to coordinate the shutdown of
other units on the scene.

58
Q

Does the DVRS work underground?

A

While the DVRS is most effective in above ground operations, it can help in underground operations, but its effectiveness is limited. A better option would be the deployment of a T-BDA

59
