2
Q

what is the motor effect?

A

when a conductor carrying current is in the magnetic field produced by a magnet so the magnet and conductor exert a force onto each other.

3
Q

describe how an electric motor works

A
  • electrical current passes through rectangular coil of wire,
  • causing a force to act on each side of it in opposite directions (due to motor effect as it is in the magnetic field of the magnet),
  • keeping the coil in constant rotation,
  • while split ring commutators reverse the direction of current with every half turn,
  • pushing the coil in the same direction each time.

Q

what is terminal velocity?

A

when the frictional force an object is equal and opposite to its weight
resulting in constant velocity

6
Q

how do crumple zones reduce the force of an impact?

A

increase impact time, reducing the change of momentum per second,
reduce momentum at front of vehicle
increase momentum at back (where vehicle is struck from)
lessening force of impact

Q

What is Newton’s first law of Motion?

A

if the forces acting on an object are balanced
the resultant force is zero
and if the object is at rest it is stationary
if it is moving its speed is constant
