Speed-Time Graph Flashcards
(8 cards)
What does the y-axis represent on a speed-time graph?
Speed (always positive).
What does the x-axis represent on a speed-time graph?
Time.
What does a horizontal line on a speed-time graph mean?
constant speed
What does a sloping line upwards on a speed-time graph mean?
The object is accelerating (speed increasing).
What does a sloping line downwards on a speed-time graph mean?
The object is decelerating (speed decreasing).
How do you calculate acceleration from a speed-time graph?
Acceleration = gradient (change in speed ÷ change in time).
How do you calculate the distance traveled from a speed-time graph?
Distance = area under the graph.
What does a flat line on the x-axis mean on a speed-time graph?
The object is stationary (speed = 0).
